Resumo

Recently, Distance Education has been receiving a lot of attention due to its expansion. In this process, the optimism that some defenders have for this new teaching modality is often seen, identifying it as a kind of panacea for the problems of education. This work intends to investigate the philosophical background of the Distance Education, highlighting one of its main representatives, the philosopher Pierre Lévy, and his optimism regarding the cyberculture for the realization of educational and social construction. The main question lies in understand the philosopher’s arguments which, when analyzed, reveal a modern inspiration in the faith of the absolute power of the human reason.
