The study offers an exploratory study of part-time faculty in higher education who have entered the National System of Researchers (PTP-SNII) in Mexico. The institutional context is the University of Guadalajara (UdeG). The objectives are: 1) To describe the goals that drive these types of actors to join the UdeG as teachers, and 2) To understand, to understand, within the framework of the academic regime, how PTP-SNII members experience their working and contractual conditions. Therefore, qualitative research is proposed with the application of semi-structured interviews. One of the main findings shows that the working and professional conditions of this type of teacher are not conducive to consolidating an academic and professional career at the institutional level, supported by research activity.
