Teaching entrepreneurship: Between politics and educational practice

In Mexico at the end of the 20th century, the concept of entrepreneurship was included in public higher education as an educational policy derived from the recommendations of international organizations. The objective of this research is to show how the teaching of entrepreneurship is assumed in a small university established in a context with strong economic and educational lags, and to describe its correspondence with educational policies in this regard. This study is qualitative,based on information provided by the graduates of the 2015-2020 cohort of an undergraduate program related to business, including their life stories and narratives entrepreneurial activities carried out during the five years of university training. Institutional weakness were found; mainly, the teachers’ work that limited the scope of the objectives of the teaching of entrepreneurship, The study also identifies an important gap between what this type of teaching should look like, according to the prescribed educational policies, and what really happens in praxis.
