The policy orientations of public state universities in Mexico concerning students' learning and employability

Abstract

Students graduating from Mexican universities find it difficult to learn autonomously and adapt to the labor market. However, we do not know the official position of state public universities to solve this problem. The purpose of this study was to analyze their policy orientations around student learning and employability. We took as reference the educational models of 31 institutions because they are official documents that guide the actions of each university. We used text mining to obtain a co-occurrence analysis between terms and a correspondence analysis according to the regions. Then, we interpreted the results with critical hermeneutic methods. The results showed five main ideas in the discourse of the universities, which we were able to generalize at the national level. We also differentiated the use of specific terms in the models depending on the region. The study includes suggestions based on the results to elaborate the educational models to solve the problem.
